We formed after the After Section 28 conference

The Section 28 Justice Coalition was formed after attending the conference 'After Section 28: LGBTQ+ Rights in an Age of Censorship and Backlash' in February 2026.

The conference brought together researchers, activists, educators, and people with lived experience of the legislation to reflect on its lasting impact and consider what justice might look like for those affected.

It was clear from the discussions that, despite Section 28 having been repealed over twenty years ago, its impact has never been formally acknowledged by the Government. Many people who attended or worked in schools during its tenure are still living with the consequences — a generation who were denied support, silenced, and made to feel that their lives and identities were shameful.

We left the conference united by a shared belief: that recognition of this harm is long overdue, and that a public inquiry is the most meaningful step towards achieving it.

In the weeks since, we have been working to establish our coalition, define our aims, and prepare our petition. We are grateful to everyone who has already expressed support and offered to help.

If you would like to get involved, please get in touch — we welcome people from all backgrounds and with all kinds of skills.
